Christ Centered Recovery

“Reaching Out to a Hurting World” is the heartbeat of Recovery In Christ Ministries.
All around us are people carrying hidden pain—wounds from the past, shame from the present, and fear about the future. Some are caught in obvious addictions. Others hide behind work, relationships, or even religious activity to numb what’s broken inside. Many are convinced they’re fine, but deep down, they know something’s not right.

The truth is, any coping mechanism that takes God’s place in our hearts eventually turns and controls us. What begins as comfort becomes bondage. Addiction slowly destroys the very relationships we most long to protect—especially our relationship with God. Left unchecked, it steals our peace, our purpose, and eventually our lives.

But there is good news. There is a way out.

Jesus Christ still heals and restores broken lives. He came to “bind up the brokenhearted… to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners” (Isaiah 61:1). He is not afraid of your pain, your past, or your struggle. He simply asks you to come.

One proven path of healing is found in the Twelve Steps. These steps are not the invention of human wisdom. They are rooted in timeless biblical principles that bring real change when we walk them out. Why do they work? Because addiction is not just a physical or emotional problem—it’s spiritual at its core. The root issue is trying to control our own lives instead of surrendering to the God who created us to walk with Him.

When we turn from self-reliance to Christ-dependence, everything changes. We move from being self-centered to being Christ-centered. This is the heart of recovery embodied in the slogan “First Things First.”

Christ Is The KeyAs Jesus said:

“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
(Matthew 6:33 NIV)

When we seek Him first, God restores what was broken. He heals our hearts, makes us whole, and reconciles us to Himself and to others. He is not surprised by where you are. He already sees the end from the beginning, and He has a good path laid out for your life—a path toward peace, joy, and victory.

The choice is yours.

A Word to Church Leaders

If you serve in church leadership, know this: you are called to be the hands and feet of Jesus to a hurting world. Many people struggling with addiction are sitting quietly in your pews, silently wondering if God still loves them. Others are outside your doors, longing for someone to see them—not as a problem to be fixed, but as souls to be loved.

You do not need to have all the answers; you only need to point people to the One who does. When you create a safe, grace-filled space where the broken can encounter Jesus, you are joining Him in His mission “to seek and to save the lost” (Luke 19:10).

As leaders, we are not called to rescue people—we are called to walk beside them as Christ rescues, restores, and redeems their lives.

Pray and Seek God’s Direction
Ask the Lord if this is His timing and His assignment for you. Invite Him to guide every decision from the very beginning. This is His ministry, not ours. (Psalm 127:1)

When we follow these simple practices, we create a place where grace flourishes, honesty grows, and Jesus is free to bring healing.
Remember: our role is to make space — His role is to transform lives.
